The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating a fatal aerial lift accident that killed a Butte man last week.
Jeff Funke of OSHA's Billings office confirmed Wednesday that investigators are looking into the accident that occurred on a lift owned by Big Sky Rental that killed one of its employees. Jay Bickford, 46, died from injuries he suffered after the elevated lift he was in tipped over Friday afternoon.
Funke said Big Sky Rental was already cited by OSHA for failing to report the fatal accident within eight hours of the incident. The rest of the investigation could take months to complete, Funke said.
Bickford was in the bucket of the lift with another man while the lift was being loaded on a flatbed trailer near Alabama and Broadway, when the lift collapsed. Bickford was transported with injuries to St. James HealthCare, and then taken by Helicopter to a Missoula Hospital where he died.
