WEST GLACIER - People from all over the world are continuing to sign a petition against Glacier National Park's brand new concessionaire, Xanterra.
The petition started back in February, and stated "do not award a lucrative concessions contract for Glacier National Park to billionaire Phil Anschutz while he is threatening the future of the park with his fracking on abutting land."
The petition goes onto accuse Exploration Corp. of drilling exploratory wells to frack the Blackfeet Reservation, east of Glacier National Park.
Officials announced last week that Xanterra had won the bid for the park's new 16-year concessionaire contract.
Glacier National Park spokesperson Denise Germann says they stand by their new hire.
"The election of a new concessionaire goes through a process, and it's the same process that's used throughout the agency for concessions contracts throughout the country. Xanterra's offer was the best offer, and Xanterra has met all the requirements to be considered awarded this particular contract - and there's no legal basis to exclude them."
Glacier Park Inc. was the previous concessionaire for GNP for more than 30 years.
