A pipe bomb was found east of Great Falls on Thursday that is believed to be connected to the Laurence Stewart case, according to Captain Ray Hitchcock of the Cascade County Sheriff's Office.
Stewart was the Virginia man convicted on Monday after throwing pipe bombs at law enforcement officers from a vehicle as he was being chased near Belt and the surrounding area in November.
Traffic was briefly routed around the scene along U.S. 89 near Armington Junction at mile marker 71.2.
A bomb-disposal unit was called to the scene to investigate and defuse the device.
Hitchcock tells MTN that they are confident this is another bomb from Stewart and that it's not an isolated case.
Hitchcock says the evidence will be submitted to Stewart's case file.
