Police confirm suspect killed in Billings standoff

BILLINGS- According to the Billings Police Department, one male suspect in a morning standoff on Miles Avenue is dead, and a Billings police officer has been injured.

Lieutenant Kevin Iffland says the Billings Police Department will hold a press conference to release more information about the standoff.

Witnesses say the suspect was shot and killed by Billings police after he stole a Billings police cruiser in an attempt to escape from the standoff.

It remains unknown the extent of injuries to the Billings police officer or how the officer was injured.

Currently, Miles Avenue is completely blocked off at 9th Street West, as well as a block in each direction.

Police are allowing traffic to run north and south on 8th Street West.

The cause of the standoff is not yet known.
