One of the candidates for the upcoming race for Bozeman City Commission has withdrawn his name for consideration due to health concerns.
Chris Pope announced that he received a diagnosis from his physician earlier this week that he has a treatable form of cancer. He said this will preclude him from committing the substantial time and energy required to running a campaign this summer and fall.
"The positive news is that, with an aggressive treatment plan, I have a good chance of full recovery," Pope said. "I now need to devote all my focus and energy on getting well. I very much regret having to withdraw my name, and am humbled by the support of those who have encouraged me to run for public office."
Pope will begin a four-month regimen of chemotherapy treatments this week at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
