West Yellowstone - The Gallatin National Forest will open the Hebgen Lake Dam Site Friday following PPL Montana's suspension of construction activities on the Dam's intake structure for the winter season.

The Site is closed annually following the spring thaw while Dam construction activities continue to help ensure public safety while heavy equipment is moving and working in the area.

The Dam Site is a popular ice fishing destination for local residents and area visitors.

PPL Montana construction work is focused on repairing damage caused to the intake structure following the failure of stoplogs in one of the intake bays in August 2008.

Work has also been completed on several sections of reinforced concrete that will be part of the permanent rehabilitated structure. New structural concrete construction is anticipated to continue through the 2013 season and will likely begin after spring thaw.
