A 65-year-old Powell County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for murdering his wife.
County attorney for Powell County Lewis Smith told KXLF that Dennis Schowengerdt was given life in the Montana State Prison without the possibility of parole Friday at his sentencing hearing before District Judge Ray Dayton. Schowengerdt murdered his wife, Tina Schowengerdt, 66, on Dec. 9, 2012, by stabbing her several times with a large survival knife in the couple's home. He pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in April.
Smith said Schowengerdt showed no remorse for his actions, and he even put blame on the victim's family while addressing the court during Friday's hearing. Smith applauded the life sentence, because it will prevent Schowengerdt from harming the victim's family and the community.
