Prescribed burns throughout the Gravelly Mountain Range in southern Madison County are planned and may result in visible smoke from mid-September through the end of November.
Firefighters will be burning piles in the Upper Ruby River valley, Timber Creek and in the vicinity of Short Creek, as well as any roadside piles throughout the district.
The crews will burn under prescribed conditions and will monitor the fires after ignition to make sure they stay within prescribed boundaries.
Officials warn travelers and residents between Lyons Bridge, Vigilante and Harris Creek of the southern part of the Tobacco Roots that they may see smoke from these burns.
