BILLINGS - Five days after a storm flooded buildings and homes in Billings, many have a long clean up ahead.
Saturday night's storm has kept people busy sifting through damaged property.
The storm runoff flowed right past a family's home in west Billings.
That runoff then became too much for a small holding pond and overflowed into their basement.
The Nicholas family on the 4500 block of Rimrock Road has to clean up water and mud.
Brian Nicholas says the force of the water broke the lock and hinge on the door and flowed into the basement. The water and mud reached a three-feet level.
The mud damaged furniture, the carpet and many family mementos.
Nicholas says the walls for the holding area are higher than the entrance to the basement and that's the reason the water came into the home.
An employee with a restoration company told the Nicholases this was the worst damage he has seen and can not do anything until the insurance company determines whether or not it will pay for the damage.
The insurance companies have been backed up and an adjuster will meet the family on Saturday.
