A scam alert is being issued by Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement.

Scam artists are traveling door-to-door claiming to be salesman or asking for donations. These people typically travel in pairs, according to Sgt. Jimm Kilmer.

Recent scam activity is in the south east section of Butte, according to Kilmer. If you allow the scam artists to enter your home they are likely to commit other crimes, possibly steal possessions of value.

It is illegal to sell items door-to-door without a business license in Butte-Silver Bow. If anyone looks suspicious, keep your door shut, get a good description of the person and call the police.

"If somebody knocks on your door and you don't feel comfortable answering your door, call us," Kilmer said. "We'll be glad to come down and check that person out. If it's a stranger and you're not comfortable answering the door, call us. We'll come down and do what we do."

Authorities said they have taken down information for one suspect in this scam, and no criminal charges have been made.
