HELENA - Search teams are looking for a man who went cross-country skiing in the Scapegoat Wilderness area last week and was supposed to come out at the Dearborn Creek Trailhead by Friday.

The man entered at the Indian Meadow Trailhead, northeast of Lincoln earlier this week. The trek is about 40 miles through the Scapegoat Wilderness from Indian Meadow Trailhead to the Dearborn Creek Trailhead.

His family contacted authorities at 1 p.m. Saturday saying he had not yet returned.

Two search and rescue parties are on foot, one from the trailhead at Indian Meadow, and one from the trailhead at Dearborn Creek and they plan to be searching overnight.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said that they have authorized an air search by helicopter and also expect to encounter bad weather moving into Sunday.

We will update with more information as soon as we get it.
