BOZEMAN - A skier was rescued after collapsing while climbing in the northern Bridger Mountains north of the Bridger Bowl Ski Area.
At around 12:14 p.m., 911 received a backcountry rescue call for the 27-year-old man who was climbing near Ainger Lake in the Bridgers about eight miles north of the ski area, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office.
Search and rescue units were dispatched to the area by ground and started into the lake by foot and specialized ATVs. By 1:11 p.m., a paramedic from Summit Air Ambulance was able to reach the man and transport him to the hospital.
Sheriff Brian Gootkin said in a news release that going into the backcountry with a partner(s) and a method of communication can mean the difference between surviving and not. In this case, the man was with a group. Late season skiing brings risks that should be accounted for when you plan on going out, Gootkin said.
