BILLINGS - Multiple fire units responded to smoke within the Montana Women's Prison in Billings late Friday night. No flames were visible.
A strange odor and smoke coming from the administration area of the building caused a precautionary evacuation of about 70 inmates.
Crews searched the area of the hallway where the smell came. Both the heating system and electrical light ballasts were working normally.
After 45 minutes, fire crews determined nothing was on fire and deemed it safe to leave.
