Postal carriers will be hopefully adding a little something extra to their bags on Saturday.
The 21st Annual Stamp Out Hunger® food drive, a nationwide effort by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service, takes place on Saturday, May 11.
Participating in the drive is as simple as leaving nonperishable food donations by your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 11. Local letter carriers will collect all donations. Those who use post office boxes can drop food donations at the post office.
Canned items like stew, meats, tomatoes, fruits and vegetables are some of the items in high demand.
Locally, post offices in Butte, Dillon and Gallatin County will be participating.
Last year, about 40,000 pounds of food and $11,000 were collected in Butte for the food bank. About 13,000 pounds of food were collected for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
