The Glacier County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday afternoon that a 49-year-old woman died on Sunday after being hit by a vehicle on US Highway 89 west of Browning.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a woman's body, but did not see the vehicle that hit her.
A press release from the Sheriff's office says that the driver of the vehicle was located a short time later and that the person has been taken into custody by Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services.
The body of the victim has been sent to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for autopsy.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, nor the name of the person in custody.
The press release states that any criminal charges in the case will be handled by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as both the victim and the suspect fall under federal jurisdiction.
