About two dozen telemark skiers took part in the Apron Challenge today, as part of the Community Events Series at Bridger Bowl. The race began near to top of the the Alpine Lift. Skiers removed their skies and hiked up the mountain, then skied down.
All of the skiers are from the Bozeman area. This was Emily Light's first telemark race. Her father taught her how to telelmark ski three years ago. She says the sports is very challenging, but she prefers it to Alpine skiing. "I feel more comfortable going downhill bending my knees. I don't know why, it feels more smooth."
Two more telemark events are scheduled at Bridger Bowl the next two weekends. For more information click here.
