BILLINGS- The arrest of the man facing charges in two Billings sexual assaults and the lead suspect in four more was arrested thanks to a tip from the public.
At a press conference on Monday morning, Billings Police Chief Rich St. John said that on July 15th, a tip came into Billings CrimeStoppers that pointed investigators to Hobby Lobby located off of 24th Street West.
According to court documents, interviews conducted with Hobby Lobby employees revealed that a man who frequented the store about once a week over the course of several years would often times follow women and, according to the employees, take pictures of them.
The court documents reveal similar behavior from the same man at Target on Central Avenue as well as TJ Maxx.
The man was identified as 41-year-old Toby Griego, a registered sex offender who had been living in Billings since 2008.
Police then focused their efforts on Griego, discovering that he had been employed at Mattress Land USA in Billings until May 18th of 2013 as a delivery man and had made a delivery to one of the victim's roommates.
Records indicated to investigators that Griego had also been employed and working a shift when several deliveries were made within proximity of the residence of the second victim.
"Shortly after receiving the CrimeStoppers information, detectives embarked on several surveillance details," said St. John at the press conference. "Through observation and collection of evidence, they were able to get a search warrant for Griego's house, shop, vehicle and phone."
