BUTTE - Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department responded to a small camp fire in the middle of Butte Tuesday afternoon.
A group of transients started a fire behind the old Skookum Motel building on Harrison Avenue. There was nothing to contain the fire, according to officials. The fire was spreading and creating a lot of smoke.
In July, transients were a problem for businesses farther north on Harrison Avenue. After much protest Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement started to patrol the area more heavily. Business owners in the area where the fire occurred say transients are often in the area.
