MISSOULA - It has been a day of praise for Senator Jon Tester, and one of scolding for Senator Max Baucus on their recent vote on expanded background checks on gun purchases.
Two groups: "Mom's Demand Action" and "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" marched to both of the senator's Missoula offices today. They support expanded background checks on anyone buying a gun and hope Senator Max Baucus is open to changing his vote.
Baucus was one of four Democrats to vote against the the Manchin-Toomey amendment that would have expanded background checks for gun buyers.
"People are coming out of the woodwork. We want to change the conversation. I think people thought we couldn't talk about gun control in a pro-gun state like montana and couldn't talk about common sense legislation but we're changing the conversation and there's a place for all the voices here," said Nancy DePastino, Mom's Demand Action Organizer
"Moms Demand Action" formed about three months ago and say they have some 300 members.
