UPDATE: A mother and her children that were inside the home with the wanted fugitive are now out of the home and safe. It is unknown whether or not the mother and her children were allowed to leave or if they escaped around 2:30 p.m. The fugitive is still in the home, alone, and armed with a pistol.
Yellowstone County Undersheriff Kevin Evans is negotiating with the fugitive at this time but they are not saying whether the he has made any demands.
The man is a friend of the homeowners but it is not known whether he was living with the family or was just visiting. Laurel Police Chief Rick Musson says, "We will wait as long as we can to negotiate."
Currently, U.S. Marshals and the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office are in charge on-scene and the Laurel Police Department is providing support.
LAUREL - An armed standoff between a fugitive and law enforcement is underway in Laurel.
Laurel Police Chief Rick Musson said he believes the standoff started at about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
U.S. Marshals were attempting to apprehend the fugitive Friday morning at the residence, but the man ran back inside the house when he saw law enforcement, Musson said.
The man is inside a home located on Third Avenue near the intersection of Maryland Lane.
Soon after the standoff began, three children that were inside the home were released to law enforcement. It is believed that a woman and one other child are still in the home with the suspect.
The Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office, Laurel Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service are on scene.
