A Butte man is charged in the death of his eight-week-old daughter.
Matthew Blaz, 32, was charged late Thursday with felony deliberate homicide for the August 16th death of the baby.
Charging documents filed in Butte Justice Court show the baby died at a residence at 2017 Arizona Street in Butte while Blaz was with the infant.
The state medical examiner determined the baby died from abusive head trauma and not from an accidental fall.
The young victim is identified as Mattisyn Jolene Blaz.
Police arrested Blaz Thursday afternoon after questioning him further on the baby's death last August.
Butte Sheriff Ed Lester said the fact that the victim was just an infant makes this a very sad case for everyone involved.
"Well anytime there's a child injured or killed it's difficult obviously on the family members, but it's difficult on the responders as well and the investigators as they proceed through a case like this. So it's hard on everybody involved in a case like this, as well as the medical people who have to deal with that kind of trauma also," Sheriff Lester said.
Blaz remains jailed on Friday on a $500,000 bond.
