A multiple vehicle collision on I-90 sends a mom and her two children to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a Ford Explorer, traveling eastbound on I-90 near Belgrade, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, and struck a guard rail, sending him into a Subaru, which careened over the median onto Thorpe Road.

The Driver of the Subaru, a mother along with her two children who were in the back of the car, was transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital with unknown injuries. Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Samuelson says they seemed to be in good shape at the time of the accident.

"The seatbelt that the adult was wearing and the 2 children being in child safety seats properly restrained definitely saved their lives in this crash," said Samuelson.

The driver of the Explorer reportedly suffered no serious injuries. Officials say driving drowsy can be just as dangerous as driving drunk.

"The best thing to do is to just pull off to the side of the road, and take a break, if you have another person in the vehicle, have them take over driving responsibilities, but if you feel like you're getting drowsy, the best thing to do is to pull over, because if you keep going, you can fall asleep before you know it," said Samuelson
