UPDATE: A message posted on the Gallatin Gateway Inn's Facebook page suggests it may reopen soon.
The post states: "We are working with the Bank on making a deal with a new buyer. The Inn is closed this month and hope to open again sometime next Month. Thank you all for the support."
The historic Gallatin Gateway Inn shut its doors on Sunday.
The front doors are padlocked and a sign states the inn is closed until further notice.
On Sunday, a message on the hotel's Facebook page said, 'Thank you to all the employees that have worked with us through the years, for all the good times. We are so sorry about all our fun time coming to can end. Thank you again!!'
The sudden closure generated dozens of comments, with many people asking why the hotel is closing its doors. In response, a comment on the inn's Facebook page stated that an official statement will be released Monday evening.
According to Wikipedia, the inn is one of the "Historic Inns of America." It opened on June 18, 1927 and was built by the Milwaukee Road.
