Hundreds of acres have burned in the Pony fire.

According to Steve DiGiovanna, the public information officer on the scene, 300-400 acres are burning. So far there are no evacuations, but Boulder Basin and Mammoth are on standby to evacuate. Up to 100 firefighters and law enforcement officials from 12 agencies are on the scene. Sixty more people are expected to help fight the fire in the morning.

DiGiovanna says a lightning strike several days ago may be the cause of the blaze. He says the fire may have been festering until dry, hot windy conditions arrived to fuel the fire.

The fire has been burning for about 4 hours. It's burning at a high elevation, about 6,500-7,000 feet. The fire is 0% contained.
