UPDATE: A man is charged with deliberate homicide, accused of murdering his 4-year-old son whose body was found near Anaconda.
Jeremy Brent Cramer, 38, of Lacey, Washington was charged in Anaconda-Deer Lodge after his son's body was found this morning. He is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Anaconda-Deer Lodge jail. He is also charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
During today's hearing, the county attorney said he does not believe that Cramer had ties to the Anaconda area.
The incident began unfolding Monday night when Anaconda-Deer Lodge Law Enforcement officers were called to a local convenience store at around 10:30 p.m. after a clerk reportedly saw a man trying to wash blood off his body and clothes in the restroom, according to a press release from authorities.
An investigation by Anaconda-Deer Lodge Law Enforcement determined that the man had left with his 4-year-old son from Lacey, Washington, likely as part of a custodial dispute.
The Anaconda-Deer Lodge Law Enforcement Agency found the man's vehicle five miles southeast of town on Montana Secondary Highway 569, but the 4-year-old was not found at the time. At daybreak Tuesday, authorities began searching again and found the boy's body. At the request of Anaconda-Deer Lodge Chief Tim Barkell, agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation at the Montana Department of Justice are assisting with the investigation.
Details of the murder are not being released at this time.
Cramer's preliminary hearing is set for July 30.
