As if Montanans needed another reason to cheer on both the Griz and Bobcats, there's good news about the student athletes coming out of the University of Montana and Montana State: they're some of the smartest in the country.
TheBestColleges.org, a website that ranks colleges and universities in many different categories came out with their list of 11 schools with the smartest student athletes. And both the Cats and Griz made the cut.
Over the fall semester in 2012, Griz student athletes posted a cumulative GPA of 3.09. A mark that is higher than the general population at the school (2.83).
For Montana State, Bobcat student athletes are continuing a very impressive streak. Athletes in the Fall 2012 semester earned a cumulative GPA of 3.15, a mark that secures the 22nd consecutive semester with at least a 3.0. In addition to being named to the list, Bobcat athletes also took home the President's Cup last year as the school was recognized for "all-around [academic] excellence in the Big Sky Conference."
Fellow Big Sky Conference member Idaho State also joins Montana and Montana State on the list with a cumulative GPA of 3.18
