MISSOULA - A string of bizarre events landed two people in jail on Saturday, and the St. Patrick Hospital emergency room was forced to shut down for more than 20 minutes.
The situation ended at the hospital, but actually began on Interstate 90 in Missoula at around 8:30 a.m. Bill Burt with the Missoula County Sheriff's Department says a call came about two people in a car having a fight on I-90 near the Reserve Street exit.
He says that when officers pulled the vehicle over later at the Town Pump in Bonner, they found a man and a woman acting strangely.
The 52-year-old man was arrested for partner-family member assault and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia while the 37-year-old female driver was transported to St. Patrick Hospital with stomach pains.
Deputies say that while at the hospital, the woman became difficult, but she was eventually discharged.
Authorities say that while she was waiting for a ride, she stepped into the bathroom, still complaining of stomach pain, and that's when the woman set toilet paper and other items on fire.
The Emergency Room was shut down while the fire was put out and the smoke cleared. The woman was arrested for arson and criminal endangerment.
